PAINTING WITH WOOL FIBRES
Painting with wool…
By layering fibre upon fibre, much like a painter would do with oils, I use tweezers rather than a brush to create my felt pictures, creating texture, colour blends and a 3D details for a range of pictorial subjects.
I like to try different styles and techniques whilst learning to understand how the fibres work so that some pictures can be quite three-dimensional and some flatter but still highly detailed.
Over the past few years I have developed my own method of felting the fibres, turning them into a fabric or canvas. Then image I have painstakingly built, fibre by fibre, results in a fabric picture that hasn’t lost any of it’s clarity during the blending of the fibres of the felt making process. By using individual silk threads as the top layer I am able to make the pictures look like sketches.
I have been creating pictures with wool for about seven years now. It has been fun watching my style develop and evolve.
