Creating clothing items as wearable pieces of art…

The blend of colours, the textures, the sheen of the silk, the softness of the wool, the luxury you feel wearing a stand-alone, unique piece of clothing is truly fantastic.

I am becoming more and more interested in creating clothing items as wearable pieces of art.

Using the Nuno felting method, such unique items can be created by layering silk fabrics and blending colours of Superfine Merino wool – often surprising yourself with the result. I always say ‘I am working on an experiment’!

Having an idea in your mind, never knowing quite how it will finish. The exciting thing is it is often far better than you could have hoped for.

HATS

I once had a lady say to me that if you are going to wear a hat then wear it with attitude.

I think this was a great comment and it has always stayed with me. Therefore, now when I make hats, I try and make them with attitude. Hats deserve to be given character. Felted hats are colourful, funky and totally unique.

Hats are created around a template. Flat and looking far too enormous to comprehend the finished item. Once partly felted the template is removed then the hard work of fulling (shrinking) and shaping the hat to fit and drape begins.
Wool hats will keep you dry as well as warm as wool is naturally water repellent.
Not only can you have your own style but you can stay warm and dry too!
